SAFETY TIP

Week_9_Hydration_Urine copy

In hot weather, your urine color is a quick, non-invasive way to gauge hydration and help prevent heat-related illness. When you’re well hydrated, your urine is usually pale yellow or clear. As you lose more fluids (especially in heat), your urine becomes darker because your kidneys are concentrating it to conserve water.

  • Very dehydrated: Dark amber to brown urine — you need to drink water immediately.
  • Dehydrated: Dark yellow urine — drink more water now.
  • Hydrated: Pale yellow or clear urine — you’re in good shape.
  • Very hydrated: Very pale yellow or clear — keep drinking water to stay ahead of heat stress.
