VMW Spirit Award Winners 4th Quarter 2025

This award highlights five nominations that best exemplify each of the core values.

Build Trust

Colt Horvath (San Antonio)
When a recall required a team member to drop off a vehicle for repairs, Colt immediately stepped in to help. He offered rides to and from work and made sure his teammate had reliable transportation throughout the process, including a trip back to the dealership once the vehicle was ready. Colt went out of his way to support a fellow team member, showing how trust is built through everyday actions.

Be Professional

Raymond Howey (North Texas)
At the UT Dallas Student Success Center + Student Union project, Howey played a key role in planning and executing a complex plan to shut down the chilled water system throughout the entire campus loop to establish connection to the new building. He took the initiative to thoroughly map the system, identify opportunities to streamline the outage and plan improvements that would support a smooth shutdown. He also developed a detailed, hour-by-hour manpower loaded schedule and presented the plan to the owner and subcontractor who would be performing the work for their support and buy-in. When the time finally came to commence the shutdown, Howey was onsite making sure each valve was secured before commencing the drain down. His preparation and leadership helped the shutdown finish ahead of schedule, with all buildings brought back online seamlessly. The owner shared that it was the best outage experience they’ve ever had and that they will use Howey’s plan as a template for future work.

Live Teamwork

Jennifer Blevins (San Antonio)
As the Lackland AirForce Base Airmen Training Complex Dormitory #6 project entered closeout, several key team members retired, requiring additional collaboration to carry the project through its final phases. Jennifer stepped in to fill the void. She worked closely with trade partners onsite to advance closeout documentation, tracked final subcontractor payments, supported warranty coordination, and helped complete testing, balancing and commissioning requirements. Jennifer also met with the owner and subcontractors onsite to complete work. While doing so, she continued supporting field service efforts on a new large-scale project, demonstrating a strong commitment to teamwork.

Be Passionate

Margie Heger (Team Member Resources)
Margie has really run with SpawGlass Women in Construction (SGWIC). She has done an absolutely phenomenal job of putting together a variety of resources and quarterly events (book club, etc.) for our SpawGlass women and getting everyone excited about being part of the group. She spent an incredible amount of time organizing our first day long SGWIC Forum and a mixer the night before. She gathered feedback on topics that would be relevant and of interest to participants and secured speakers/panelists who had expertise in those areas, e.g. women’s health, finance, etc. The Forum received rave reviews from our women, and many of them are already looking forward to next year’s event! Margie’s passion for learning and development, plus her eagerness to be a resource for all team members, shows through her proactive development of learning materials, programs and groups like SGWIC.

Think Like an Owner

Justin Caskey, Jordan Salazar (South Texas)
After a hailstorm moved through the area, Justin promptly visited the Taft ISD High School jobsite to assess conditions and communicate next steps with the Superintendent of Schools. The following morning, Justin returned alongside Jordan, and together they addressed cleanup efforts to ensure the site was safe and ready for continued work. Their proactive response helped minimize any project delay and ensure the school district was able to open on time Monday morning, demonstrating a clear owner’s mindset and commitment to doing what was right for the client and our team.
