VMW Spirit Award Winners 2nd Quarter 2024

This award highlights five nominations that best exemplify each of the core values.

Build Trust Kenneth Munoz (Houston)
Kenneth was tasked with a project for Houston Building Services that involved upgrading drinking fountains and wall tile at 15 separate locations throughout an active hospital facility. Through their proactivity and diligence in scheduling, working non-standard hours to coordinate loud work with staff in the building and phasing simultaneous work in multiple locations, Kenneth’s team was able to condense the schedule and finish the project ahead of time with minimal disruption to the client. His hard work provided excellent service resulting in client satisfaction.

Be Professional Zach Lewis (Marketing)
When Gregg County wanted to do a groundbreaking, they expressed they “didn’t need anything special.” Zach disregarded this expectation and went above and beyond. From personally installing window film on the SpawGlass team’s office storefront to the overall coordination of the groundbreaking event, he took charge of planning and procuring the event, driving hours across the state to make sure it was perfectly executed. The event ended up being much larger than the owners expected, and Gregg County was extremely pleased and grateful for the extra work that was put into the ceremony. Following the event, the owner was quoted in an interview calling SpawGlass “professional” and “a first-class operation.”

Live Teamwork Bryan Rodriguez (Houston)
Brian lives in Louisiana but works in the Houston Division. One of our North Texas project teams was in the process of prepping campsite pads to pour and experienced elevation discrepancy issues due to site conditions, causing progress to halt temporarily. After an unsuccessful resolution attempt by a third-party survey company, the project team contacted other SpawGlass divisions in search of an in-house surveyor to resolve the issue. Fortunately, they were put in contact with Brian. Brian drove from Louisiana to North Texas to shoot elevations and stake the campsite pads. Brian’s efforts provided the team with accurate elevations, allowing them to move forward without further delay.

Be Passionate Hector Rubio (Houston)
On a busy road in front of Hector’s jobsite, a stalled vehicle caught fire. Hector noticed the burning vehicle and grabbed a fire extinguisher to put out the fire. He and his team directed traffic away and pushed the vehicle to safety in a nearby parking lot. Hector’s quick thinking and brave actions diverted what could have ended up being a disastrous situation.

Think Like an Owner Ben Torres & Alberto Diaz (San Antonio)
After initial construction of a project was complete, a client realized that seven of the building’s columns would need to be modified. The client requested an emergency service order to rectify the situation, and the work order was sent to Building Services. For the safety of staff and customers, the work needed to begin after 8:00 p.m. on a Friday evening. Without hesitation, Ben and Alberto rearranged their personal weekend schedules to work all night to perform the emergency welds and additional steel modifications that were needed to address the issue. Ben and Alberto represented SpawGlass by thinking like an owner to address the issue with the urgency it required, keeping the client’s customers safe and leaving the client satisfied.
