STUDENT SUCCESS CENTER + STUDENT UNION

Construction Update 11/20/2024

Owner: The University of Texas at Dallas
Owner’s Representative: Project Control
Architect: Perkins + Will

Despite some rainy weather over the past few weeks, the SpawGlass-North Texas team has been making great progress on the new Student Success Center + Student Union at The University of Texas at Dallas. Over the past few weeks, we’ve pumped more than 250,000 gallons of water from the site to keep the work moving forward. In the basement, we’ve continued waterproofing and pouring basement walls, elevator pits, slabs and grade beams.

With basement work well underway, we’ve started preparations for construction of the building’s ground level, including the placement of grade beams and preparation for the installation of mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) systems. Multiple crews will be working simultaneously in the basement and on the first level to keep everything on schedule.

Looking ahead, we’re gearing up for an exciting milestone: the shoring and supports for the elevated deck are underway, with the first elevated concrete pour scheduled for December 11!

Here’s a look inside the jobsite trailer, where our team is using lean scheduling and pull planning to keep the project on track. Lean scheduling is a collaborative approach that breaks the project into smaller, manageable steps, helping to improve efficiency and keep work flowing smoothly. Pull planning helps us work backward from the final goal to ensure every step of construction is properly sequenced and aligned. This approach is especially important on a busy, occupied campus like UTD, where space is tight and coordination is key. By bringing all project partners together, we make sure tasks are planned efficiently, handoffs are seamless, and the work stays safe and organized. It’s all part of our commitment to providing the absolute best construction experience for The University of Texas at Dallas students, faculty and community members!

Stay tuned for more updates as we continue making progress!
