Construction Update 02/05/2025
Owner: The University of Texas at Dallas
Owner’s Representative: Project Control
Architect: Perkins + Will
Progress is in full swing at The University of Texas at Dallas, with construction reaching exciting new milestones. The first slab-on-grade — a concrete slab poured directly on the ground to form the foundation — has been completed for Level 1 in the lecture arena, also known as the rotunda. Work also continues on elevated deck pours, which create the structural floors above the basement. The most recent pour in Area 3 included the project’s first post-tensioned beam, a reinforced concrete beam strengthened with high-strength steel cables to improve durability and support.
Crews are staying busy across the site, installing utilities such as water, sewer and electrical systems, as well as placing underground electrical and plumbing beneath slab-on-grade areas. Meanwhile, columns and shear walls, which provide vertical support and resist lateral forces like wind, are being poured on Level 1. The first elevated pour has now been stripped of formwork, the temporary molds that shape and hold concrete until it sets. Looking ahead, preparations are underway for the second-floor elevated deck.
