Connally Memorial Medical Center
New Medical Office Building

Owner: Connally Memorial Medical Center
Architect: RVK Architecture

Located south of San Antonio, Floresville is a growing area with a friendly, close-knit culture. Connally Memorial Medical Center (CMMC) recently celebrated their 20th year of providing healthcare services to this community on their Floresville campus with the grand opening of their newly completed Medical Office Building, constructed by SpawGlass-San Antonio.

The new facility was built to house the hospital’s orthopedics, podiatry and rehabilitation departments under one roof in a prominent location at the front of the CMMC campus. Patient care areas include radiology, examination suites, an expansive physical therapy center with specialized equipment and an outdoor turf area, complete with balance beams and safety rails fabricated by our San Antonio Building Services team. Combining these services into one single-level building with a dedicated parking lot enhances access to patients with limited mobility and ensures they can receive the care they need without traveling far from home.

Utilizing the design-build delivery method, our team worked closely with RVK Architecture to streamline decision-making and eliminate the need for multiple points of communication. Project Manager Matt Mazurek spoke highly of the delivery method’s efficiency, stating, “This approach enabled our team and CMMC to function as a cohesive unit, optimizing the building’s design based on real-time feedback and completing the project in just 12 months from groundbreaking to grand opening.”

Floresville’s beautiful rolling hills create a scenic setting for the medical center. Grading the site for the new building and preparing the hillside location for a new ground-up structure required creative thinking from the team. Due to the topography of the area and the presence of fatty clay soil, the decision was made to implement a helical pile foundation – a deep, durable foundation system using helical-shaped steel plates welded to a central steel shaft that is drilled down into the earth. A first for SpawGlass, the installation of the system proved to be quick and efficient, with a total of 115 piles drilled in just five days.

The new building’s location next to the main entrance of the active campus required material deliveries to be planned strategically, and large tasks such as concrete pours needed to be completed quickly and cleanly to ensure hospital access remained unobstructed. With an abundance of careful coordination and open communication, our team was able to successfully navigate this challenge, building trust with the owner and the community.

Connally Memorial Medical Center’s goal for this project was to enhance local healthcare access by integrating critical specialized care services in a single, patient-centered facility – a longtime vision that is now a reality. Reflecting on the significance of the project, CMMC CEO Bob Gillespie stated, “This isn’t just a building; it’s a symbol of hope and healing, representing our ongoing efforts to evolve and expand, always focused on providing the best care to our community.” We are proud to have built a strong partnership with CMMC and a quality healthcare facility that will serve the Floresville community for generations to come.
